A RSA token is a type of portable device which contains a digital signature used for authentication purposes. The token can be installed onto different types of portable devices, including a USB jump drive and a smart card. There are differences on what types of hardware is required for these devices. A USB jump drive, containing a token, only requires a USB port on the computer. A smart card, on the other hand, requires a smart card reader to be attached to the computer.
Ways to Help Reduce Issues Faced When Using a USB RSA Token
Using a RSA token on a USB jump drive requires the least amount of equipment. However, you must supply a USB jump drive to each employee requiring a token. You must also be prepared for employees forgetting their USB jump drive at home, or accidently misplacing and losing them. You can alleviate some of these issues, by using jump drives which attach to a key ring. Employees can place their assigned jump drives onto the key ring of their car keys or office keys. This will decrease the likelihood of accidently losing or forgetting their jump drives.
