A RSA token is a form of two factor authentication organizations will use to prevent unauthorized access to computer resources. The token key is contained on a device which the user carriers with them at all times. The token could be on a removable USB jump drive or contained on a smart card, embedded into their employee ID. When a user turns on their computer, they are prompted for their token key. Once their token key has been read and authenticated against the main system, they are allowed to log into the system using their user name and password.
Why Would I Want to Use a RSA Token System in My Business?
You will want to consider using a RSA token system for your business when employees share computers. You may have one set of employees, who work in the morning, and another set of employees, who work in the evenings. To illustrate, you could have a day time manager and evening supervisor, who both share the same computer. Your manager can have access to sensitive information like payroll data and scheduling tools, that you do not want your supervisor to see. By having a token system in place, you do not have to worry about your supervisor attempting to log in at your manager, since they will not have the correct token key.
