CA Software

Digi-CA™ Server is the CA Software that is installed on a server in a data centre or at the customer site. As explained in 2.6.3, Digi-CA™ charges a once off license fee in advance that is based on the cost of the software, its configuration and installation and then the number of certificates required over the life of the product's use. The only other fee you pay is the annual license fee to cover upgrades, patches and application telephone support (see sub section 3.14 for more details).

Digi-CA™ Shared was a concept conceived by Digi-Sign in 2006 that has only recently been acknowledged by potential customers as a real alternative in the provisioning of CA services. Although implementations of this concept CA are limited, the capability and the option are important.

Typical enquiries come from large industry or government agencies where ownership of the entire CA is not a requirement, but ownership of specific components is preferred (e.g. data files, HSMs or the requirement to have a complete, hosted disaster recovery system). When considering Digi-CA™, the availability of this concept may not be of paramount importance, but its availability may be very useful during the continued growth and expansion of the total environment.

Digi-CA™ is delivered either as CA Software or as a Managed CA and it is available in three classes:

• Digi-CA™ Xs - Entry Level CA
• Digi-CA™ Xp - Professional CA
• Digi-CA™ Xg - Trust Centre CA

There are four principal variations of Digi-CA™ Service and each variation can be provided as a single variant and multiple combinations are also possible. The four main variants are:

• Digi-SSL™ Service - is for SSLs in bulk (5 or more)
• Digi-Access™ Service - for two factor authentication certificates
• Digi-Mail Service™ - provides secure email certificates
• Digi-ID™ Service - is for multi-use Digi-ID™ certificates

When issuing and managing multiple Digi-SSL™ certificates, the Digi-CA™ Service system is the recommended management system. Almost every Digi-SSL™ certificate is issued from a TRoot and therefore this is offered form this Managed CA service .

When securing with Digi-Access™ two factor authentication, we recommend using Digi-CA™ Service, because it is issued and managed by the Digi-CAST™ team and it is much faster to configure and deploy. However, the is also the option to install the Digi-CA™ Server software if there is a strong requirement and business case for it .
