At its core, Digi-CA™ software was designed for Unix and Linux operating systems that provide a robust and stable operating environment. The simplicity of the architectural design of the complete Digi-CA™ system means that the same software can be deployed on a single server device and later scaled for enterprise or Internet PKI use with minimum or no disruption.
Typically, scaling may start from a 'handful' of servers acting in a basic
fail-over mode. Such basic setup can be later extended to reach greater capacity and performance by introducing additional servers as required. This scaling of the capacity can occur almost without, or completely without, interrupting the operation of the existing production environment. This is a critical component when deciding on a CA that may scale considerably over time and allows organisations to carefully plan their investment costs, whilst also achieving all functional goals.
The following table presents a minimum software and hardware requirement to deploy a standard Digi-CA™ on a single server device.
Component | Minimum Requirements Specification
Server OS Platform | Unix®, Linux® [x86 / x86-64 / ia64]
Operating System | Red Hat Enterprise Linux® 4.x, 5.x ; FreeBSD® 5.x, 6.x, 7.x, 8.x
RAM Memory | 1GB RAM | |
Hard Disk Device | 15GB ATA/SCSI/SAS
CPU | Intel® Pentium® IV 2.4 MHz
Network Interface Card | Intel® compatible 10/100 Megabits NIC
Database server software | MySQL Community Server 5.0.45
Digi-CA™ software is a multi-application component based system for generating and managing cryptographic keys, digital X.509 public key certificates and providing supplementary PKI services. In this model, each application component, referred to as a "Service Module", provides a series of both cryptographic and non-cryptographic functionalities to other application components within the system’s infrastructure.
